Water source heat map
On 11 August 2014, the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) published a high-level water source heat map for England.
The map is intended to highlight opportunities for using water source heat pump technology for district heating networks by local authorities, community groups and private developers and to raise awareness of untapped potential when planning local energy solutions.
It is based on an assessment of those urban rivers with the highest potential for use by water source heat pump systems, for heating and cooling. The map identifies areas of high heat demand adjacent to rivers with sufficient flow rates and also indicates locations sensitive to environmental factors, which may constrain development.
DECC suggest that they will publish a more detailed water source heat map in the winter as part of the National Heat Map.
